highest DPS build? (EDIT: FOR RANGERS)
I couldn't find this topic exactly by searching, and I read an earlier one on this board regarding DPS, but not in this vein...so, here are my questions:
What is the highest DPS you've managed (on average) against the Master of Damage?
What was the build? (central idea ok - if u don't want to divulge ur super-secret ownage build)
Mine is a VoS turret which was in the neighborhood of 50 DPS, and a scythe-weilder (modified escape scythe) doing around 65 DPS. Probably not the best numbers in either case (bow, or other), hence the questions.
I would appreciate your info/advice/input....screenies are welcome if you've got insane numbers...
Thanks!

I would have to assume a Splinter/Barrage + Nightmare/Tripple shot, but Master of Damage isn't too good to calculate AoE.
BTW guys, this is in the Ranger forums, but it's ok, I made the same mistake :P

77dps with a very simple R/A Build with a pet.
1:Unsuspecting Strike
2:Wild Strike
3:Repeating Strike
4eath Blossom
5:Lighting Reflexes
just get up to Death Blossom, then hit LR + DB, get the chain up to repeating strike and spam that. Easy.

Before PvE and PvP separation I could easily go 100+ dps with a Sundering Machine Gunner, which used Prepared Shot, Sundering Attack, and Penetrating Attack. My varient was instead of Rapid Fire, use Read the Wind and Flail.

your input/advice is much appreciated so far....just to clarify a few things however, as stated it's a Ranger forum, so anything R/? is ok, and PvP is the issue of concern. I've seen a lot of pets in RA/TA lately, of which many have done what seems to be impressive damage (on me, lol), but is that calculable on the Master of Damage? Comments concerning 10k spikes are not helpful, unless of course it's something that can be done on a consistent and reliable basis, in which case Anet would have done away with long ago...Milan - I like that R/A build...im'a try that as soon as i get a chance, ty again. Keep the comments coming, I'm interested to see how high (realistically) the Ranger can maintain DPS.
<anticipatory flame rebuttal> 1) I know Rangers' main focus should not be on DPS, but rather a utilitarian, interrupt/damage support role - but in RA it's rare to get a team that is balanced enough to utilize that support - it's kill or be killed...2) I've checked Wiki, I've searched (using the search button and appropriate search strings) the forums, I've consulted with guildies, and I've experimented with my own builds...this is just to get input from others regarding their experience with the issue-at-hand...</end anticipatory flame rebuttal>

ranger is not as meant for high dps as it is for massive conditions and shutdown, seriously, you'll find yourself actually doing more damage spreading a sh1tton of conditions or shutting downa pesky monk. imo

[Expert's Dexterity]["You Move Like a Dwarf!"][Golden Lotus Strike][Jungle Strike][Trampling Ox][Death Blossom][Drunken Master][Great Dwarf Armor]
This is what I usually use in PvE to kill stuff. It generally outputs around 90-100 DPS on your target when using Death Blossom, not counting the splash damage.
I wouldn't really use it in PvP though... not that reliable there
For PvP the standard Burning Arrow build will output around 50 DPS
[Apply Poison][Burning Arrow][Savage Shot][Distracting Shot][Natural Stride][Mending Touch][Troll Unguent][Resurrection Signet]
You could probably run an Enraged Lunge build for PvP. I've never used it but the maximum DPS would be in the neighborhood of around 70-80.
[Feral Aggression][Tiger's Fury][Enraged Lunge][Crippling Victory][Pious Assault][Comfort Animal][Charm Animal][Resurrection Signet]

You'll never reach what you seek by choosing a ranger for good dps.
It just cannot be done with the ranger's skills and weapon of choice, the bow. What the ranger lacks in damage, it makes up for interrupts and condition spreading mainly, with other utilities such as trapping.
There are pros of a class and cons of a class. Dps isnt a pro.

so, ty for all the responses...again, this wasn't to claim ranger as best DPS, but given that ranger is my main and has the most titles atm of all my chars, I wanted ideas to increase DPS based on your collective experiences. I've tried a number of wiki builds, created my own builds, and followed friends advice. This was just to garner more input to see if there may be other more effective builds, in terms of delivering maximum DPS, albeit from a ranger. This is mainly to break the monotony of basic utility builds. I like knowing that my enemies are burning, poisoned, crippled, and blinded (hopefully all at the same time ), but it's also nice to see some big yellow numbers, too! Btw, I've tried an enraged lunge beastmaster build in PvP, and all I can say is, "wow". Pretty damned effective. Not quite sure of the DPS (I've seen -90's and -20's pop at the same time -- so ~120-30 pt spikes?), but the best part is that players never attack the pet (at least in RA), until they actually realize it's what's doing the damage! By that time it's too late and the pet is delivering it's death blow. I have a raven which is fun to watch flying after enemies and pecking at them. Also, having the spear/shield set gives me extra hp potential. I'm thinking of bringing another attack or self-heal in place of a rez-pet/pet heal because out of about 50 matches using a pet, it's only been killed twice. Anyway, ty again...more comments are appreciated.

Utility builds do get boring *sigh*
The only thing I regret about rangers is when your whole party dies and your the only one left, youll never damage or survive like other classes.
Outside of interrupting and conditions in the bow path I cannot see very far.

Okay here's a build my friend uses. I don't know the exact build but:
12+3 Expertise
12+3+1 Marksmanship
3+1 Wilderness Survival
He said he didn't care about living just killing. Anyhoo...
He uses Sundering Attack, Penetrating Attack, Point-Blank Shot, Zojun's Shot, Sloth Hunter's Shot, and Glass Arrows {E}. He also used Troll Unguent and Resurrection Signet. But he says he switches the res to Whirling Defense for PvE.
Sundering Attack and Penetrating Attack do quite the damage in PvE. Point-Blank Shot and Zojun's Shot have done 140 damage to me in PvP. Sloth Hunter's Shot has done up to 150 damage to me in PvP.

ooook.
-150HP for the sake of a few points of damage. Worth it?

I think the highest one i've ever got on a ranger was 83dps on the Master of Damage.
With a standard turret build, spamming P/Sund Shot and Prep Shot etc.

I've been using this and hit very decently.
Lets see if I can do this right, lol.
[Burning Arrow][Screaming Shot][Point Blank Shot][Distracting Shot][Savage Shot][Troll Unguent][Throw Dirt][Sunspear Rebirth Signet]
Depending on where I am i'll switch troll out for the poison tip signet or epidemic.
